Tonight is the inaugural Out of the Box DJ night. That Dude Trey and I will be dropping all of those jams you love but either forgot or other DJ's aren't playing. Plenty of 90's R&B, underground hip-hop, choice 80's and some good ole funk. Stop through the Nomad and holler at your boys!

New Sage Francis
Forget hip-hop meets rock, electro, or jazz. Sage Francis is getting it in with classic composer Yann Tiersen and Brian Deck. The two's style lends an unlikely wonderful backdrop to Sage Francis' emo vocals. The first single finds misfit tales perfectly positioned next to a movie score about a wide-eyed child discovering the world and himself. Very reminiscent of P.O.S.'s "Purexed."

JGoods for Mayer Hawthorne
JGoods for Mayer Hawthorne from JGoods on Vimeo.
The local streetwear and shoe-customizers, JGoods, whipped up something classy for Mayer Hawthorne for his First Ave appearance last week. Mayer showed much love on Twitter and elsewhere. It's definitely been a good look for these talented local kids. For more dope stuff from this collective, be sure to peep their website--> JGoods
Sharon Jones "I Learned the Hard Way" video
This band is a perfect match for vinyl and that is exactly what you can find at your local record shop this Saturday. It is Record Store Day this Saturday where everyone should support their local record store and pick up the rare single-day issues of singles and EP's that some artists put out. Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings are no exception. They'll be dropping a 45 at select locales. Don't sleep in this Saturday!
