Foster The People, "Pumped Up Kicks (B-Rock drum edit)"
Pumped Up Kicks (B-Rock drum edit) by DJ B-Rock
I love this song, but the drums are way too quiet and don't have enough roll for me to play out. So I quantized the song and layered a new drum break over it. Enjoy!

Happy Record Store Day!
Brother Ali starts responding to the topic of illegal downloading but eventually gets into physical music. Many of my feelings towards physical music, especially vinyl, he so eloquently explains. I find this to be particularly relevant on a day like today. Below are some of my favorite comments.
"I wanna live with this music. I had something to bring home: art, lyrics and photographs... I had a physical connection with it. You have to take care of it... you start building a collection that lives in your house of all this music that means so much to you."
"The relationship that you have with your music is HURT when all you're doing is downloading it... that's an estranged relationship you're having with that music."
"Very seldom when you're downloading stuff are you hearing things the way that we're intending you to hear them... we still practice the art of making an album... it takes you on a journey... it's an experience"

I thought I'd share some tasty treats that, as far as I can tell, are only available on vinyl. The first one is a fun edit and remix of Lyrics Born's "Calling Out" with Hall & Oats that is featured on a very diverse, but recommended remix EP by Los Bandidos.
This next one is a silky edit of Sergio Mendes' tropical "Rhoda" with an extended shoulder-shaking break intro for all of you DJ's out there.
Lastly we have J. Rawls' jazzed-out tribute to Dilla found on sweet blue wax. Grab a cognac and a porch for this one.

Presenting Malcolm and Martin, "Movement Music"
I was in Fifth Element the other week flipping through their new arrivals and this caught my eye. It wasn't because it was something I hadn't heard of, but because the album had "DJ Revolution presents..." on it. I'm a fan of Revolution not only from a turntablist perspective, but also from his ear for quality emcees as evident in his King of the Decks album. Kevin Beacham was in the store and I asked him if he knew anything about these guys. He said that he was rolling in Chicago with somebody and they had this playing in their whip. Kevin knew he had to check it out and eventually brought it into the store. Solely based on DJ Revolution and Kevin Beacham's co-signs I bought it and gave it a chance. It hasn't left my deck since. Highly recommended for the hip-hop heads.

The Death Set, "Slap Slap Slap Pound Up Down"
This video and song remind me of Beastie Boys' "Sabotage", but updated. Maybe it's because I've got the Beasties on mind as their delayed album approaches. Either way, this is some intense, raw party energy.
The Death Set's new album is produced by tastemaker extraordinaire, XXXchange, and is now out on Ninja Tune.

Introducing The Weeknd
The Weeknd - House Of Balloons by The_Weeknd
Take the sultry, baby-making swooning and electronica influences of Gayngs, strip down some vocals, add some Kid Cudi-esque rapping with a healthy helping of drugs and swag. I'm calling this the Nu R&B.
Follow soundcloud for individual tracks and streaming and follow the jump to download the album.

Shabazz Palaces
Shabazz Palaces Sampler by subpop
With a flow as relaxed as Cudder not because he's lazy, but because he's actually talented. Nonchalantly tongue-in-cheek dark like Tyler the Creator, but with more conscience and less randomness. All over downtempo, electronic beats with more than a hint of dubstep.
Out on Sub Pop May 31st.
