Wale - Folarin (mixtape)
Wale takes a brief retreat from the shallow end of the hip-hop pool and revisits the depth and flow that OG fans knew he was capable of.

Logic, "Young Sinatra III"
Not bad for a DJ-turned-emcee... especially since the cuts on this track are nice. You can check more Logic off his free mixtape, Young Sinatra.

Kendrick Lamar, "Cut You Off"
I normally gloss over live video posts on blogs but there was something undeniably genuine watching Kendrick Lamar rip a stage. I proceeded to download his most recent mixtape, O.D. (Overly Dedicated) and it hasn't left the rotation. He can move seamlessly from R&B to street to anthem without ever questioning what he's about. He is my favorite new emcee and OD is excellent front to back.

You Need These Mixtapes
The first is from up-and-coming Brooklyn female emcee, Nitty Scott, whom you heard out from me back in November. The second is from a Detroit legend and all of his friends who are all finally getting the look they deserve after being signed to Shady Records earlier this year. Both mixtapes are better than the majority of the hip-hop records that have come out this year. And both are free and both are nearly free of annoying DJ drops.

Fashawn, "Bart Simpson" video + Grizzly City 3 mixtape
Fashawn had a startling good debut album last year called "Boy Meets World" (entirely produced by Exile). I became a fan after watching the "Sunny CA" music video. I became a believer after listening to his full length. He then became a problem after commanding the stage at Soundset like a vet in the game. Be on the lookout for this kid. In the meantime, grab his album after sampling from the mixtape.
