If you missed it, this is to rub the party in your face. If you were there, this is to remind you what went down. Don't miss this month's Turnt Up! this Friday at Honey.
I've been talking mad 'ish about dubstep for a minute. I don't get it... and STILL don't. But there are some good downtempo examples out there. Take, for example, this Slim Thugz freEP Living Dreams (download here). I've been playing this more than I care to admit. It's got a lot more harmonies and boom-bap than most dubstep which keeps me coming back.
Here's a brand new banger off of Gucci's upcoming The Return of Mr. Zone 6 album. The original track is way too slow for me to play out and doesn't have a proper intro. So I sped it up and created an 8-bar, DJ-friendly beginning and ending. For my DJ's!
The first official single (and a fantastic one at that) from Grieves' first official Rhymesayers' release Together/Apart due this Summer. Yes, that is real footage from Grieves' childhood. As Slug said, "how'd they know you'd make a rap video some day?!? That's dope!"
This kid is so smooth and chill that I can't help but picture Fresh Prince's "Summertime" music video. It could be partially that he's from Philadelphia, too.
